Things that make me happy!

Day 17 is nothing more than the things that make you happy. So without further adieu, here you are- my favorite things!
Puppies
Ice cream
Shoes
and temples
These are the things that make me happy, any given day!

Warry Pooh!

Day 16: Someone you see yourself marrying or being with in the future.
This one was a bit easy. However, if you had told me I was going to marry my husband the first time I met him, I probably would have smashed your face in with my fist. It's weird how things happen sometimes. I love Warren now though! He's my best friend and always makes me laugh. We go together like ham and cheese!

Plans, goals, dreams and nicknames

Day 14.
Ugh. Now is the NOT the time to be asking me about my future plans, haha! I can't make decisions to save my life. No wonder Warren hates shopping with me, I can't ever decide on anything. My plan in life right now is to get a job that I like. Searching for jobs is hard enough, imagine trying to do it in a foreign country. It sucks. Especially because this is totally a city- what I mean is, everything is downtown. Unless you work at a boutique shop or in the mall, everything is downtown. Which means riding the C-train. Sorry, I got a little off topic there.
My goals in life... I'd like to one day have a house and family, and my own puppy. I'd like to travel a little, and be a good person. My dreams... I guess just take my goals and step them up a notch! I would love to be an orthodontist but I don't want to have to through all that schooling--- I'm selfish I guess.

Day 15.
My nicknames:
Kels- just a shortened version of Kelsey
Kelso- I don't know how I got it, but I used to watch That 70's Show a lot...
and Shorty- some of my guy friends in high school started calling me this because of how short I am. Thankfully no one calls me this anymore.

Immigration update!
So, after reading the ENTIRE Immigration Canada website, I'm starting to understand this catch 22 that I ended up in. I also went to the LDS Employment office to see if they had anymore information or knew of places I could apply. They guy was not very encouraging. He told me that I am a risky candidate because of my age, looks, and because I'm "newly married". I was holding back tears a little. I had an old boss who told me I was nothing more than a 'short barbie doll'. It was more frustrating that helpful, I don't think I'll be going back there to seek his advice again. His comment about Jewish employers was a little out of line, too. He did however, tell me that if I am a good worker and prove that upfront, and 'wow' people in my interviews, they will be willing to hire me and send a letter to immigration in order to get my hours so I can apply for the permit. Which is what has to happen in order to get a work permit So, I've begun my search. Warren has been putting a ton of pressure on me to get a job for last few months, but he wants me to get something that starts at a certain pay, and that isn't super crappy. Well if he thinks he can do a better job at finding a job with that kind of pressure, then he can do it. Our house has been kind of tense the last week or so. But there is a way out of the catch 22, in case anyone was really that concerned for me. Also if you hear of any positions available in the Calgary area, let me know!

And also, day 13

Someone I would want to switch places with for one day.

This one is really hard. It's hard to really pick one, because there are so many people that I would love to take a peak at their lives.
Hmm... well, I think I'd like to see what it would be like to be a doctor. I think that could be the best and the worst of professions. I'd love to be able to help someone over come a major illness, and help people have hope. But, as in life, with the good there is always bad. I couldn't imagine having to tell someone they were going to die, or having to tell their families that they was nothing more they could do to save their life. I still would like to see what it would be like.

I also think I would want to know what it was like in Jesus' time. I don't think I'd want to switch places with Him, but maybe someone near Him to see what it was like.

And, for a more superficial side- someone famous. Popular requests could be the president, Angelina Jolie, Taylor Swift, Oprah... the list goes on. Do you think it's weird to want to see how a famous person lives? I just wonder what you would spend all that money on... ;)

Day 12- Music shuffle

My challenge for today is to put my ipod (or the like) on shuffle and write down the first 10 songs that come up. Ready go.

1.Turn Your Love - Jack Johnson
2. Aure Volanti - Borah High School Women's Choir, Ars Nova
3. Song For The Dumped- Ben Folds
4. Promiscuous Girl - Nelly Furtado
5. Forever Young - Inside Out
6. Better Than Revenge - Taylor Swift
7. Haunted - Taylor Swift (crazy, two in a row)
8. Crush- David Archuleta
9. Screaming Infidelities - Dashboard Confessional
10. The Rock Show- Blink 182

So there ya have it. You can kind of tell what I listen most of the time... silly shuffle. No idea where the Blink 182 came from though... :)

Catch 22

So in case you haven't been reading, I'm finally able to apply for my work permit. I have a friend in my ward who is doing the exact same thing as I am, only she's from the UK. We both just had a major roadblock put in front of us. In order for either one of us to apply for our work permits, we have to have a letter from our employer. Did you catch that?
We have to have a letter from our employer in order to apply for our work permits.
Basically what's it's saying is, we have to already have jobs in order to get our work permits. The funny thing is, and here is the catch- you're going to laugh your pants off, is no one will hire someone who isn't legally allowed to work and doesn't have a work permit.
Does this seem silly to you? This is a nightmare. I'm at a loss.

I've been updating my resume and it caused me to have this mid life crisis panic attack. I'm turning 23 next month, and I have done nothing with my life. I've considered going back to school and majoring in economics, but I'm skeptical. I've also considered getting a technical degree in dental assisting, but it seems a little gross. I would love to be an orthodontist assistant but I have no idea what degree I need for that... does anyone know? Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do? PLEASE HELP!

And for my blog challenge, today is day 11 which is a picture of me and my family.
Kristine, me, Grandma, my mom (this is my immediate family)
me, step mom, and my dad
Zack (my favorite nephew), Kristine, and McKenzie (my favorite niece)
Kassie and Peter (sister and bro in law)
all of us (we're a tight family)
top left: Evan, Graham, Warren, then Whitney, MIL, Step FIL, and me
and finally, Graham, Evan, and FIL, Warren, me, step MIL

I have a big family!
*MIL= mother in law, FIL= father in law

Day 10

Songs I listen to when I'm bored, mad, sad, hyped.

Oh, this could be hard.
When I'm bored, any music will do. Usually the upbeat stuff you'd find on the radio. I like Justin Timberlake (always have, always will) and Katy Perry.. ya know, the popular stuff that everyone knows- stuff you sing along to. And, this may sound weird... choral music. I about killed Warren from boredom today before church started by telling him about sacred music in the Medieval Period and how back then, sacred music was sung a cappella because Pope Gregory believed that sacred music included only the human voice, and no instruments. (We got a new organ at church which spurred my music history knowledge).
Hey! WAKE UP!

When I'm mad... I don't really listen to a particular song but more of a playlist which consists of all my screamo music from high school and college days, which includes but is not limited to Thrice, Matchbook Romance, The Used, Underoath...

When I'm sad... I like to listen to Jack Johnson. It's happy, but not so happy it makes you want to puke. And church music.

Hyped... Hmm... well one of my favorite songs is "I'm happy, feelin' glad, I got sunshine, in a bag". It's my roommates song from my first year of college. It brings back a lot of memories and can always spark a party! Show tunes are always good, oooh and ABBA!!

So- those are my music tastes... the only thing I can't stand is country. I hope I didn't bore you to death with my rambling on about music history. If you ever want to know more... you know who to ask. :)

you're just going to have to ignore...

the hideousness that is my blog right now. i'm working on changing everything around and things are not working the right way and my patience is thin so i have to take a break from working on it from time to time. sorry if it grosses you out and your respect for me drops... haha! :)

Day 8 and 9.. and then some

Day 8: Short Term goals.
*cricket, cricket*
Hmm... short term goals... Well, for starters, we just got a letter from Immigration Canada informing me on two things. One, I need to go downtown to get my finger prints taken and then send them to Virginia to prove that I have no criminal record. Sure hope that unpaid parking ticket that Warren got while parking MY car in the USU Cafeteria parking lot doesn't show up. I probably shouldn't have said that. Which is the last thing that I need to get done- which should take about 6 weeks. And then I have the final interview which is where, I believe, they issue you your permanent residency. *Throws confetti*. So, one of my goals this week is to ride the train downtown to get that done. I'm planning on taking the train there, then getting lost and calling someone to come rescue me. That's usually how things go for me.
My next short term goal is getting my work permit applied for. That's right, folks--- Warren's sponsorship was approved which means that I am able to apply for my work permit and study permit. Life is finally getting back on track! Woo! It's kind of a big deal. So, those are my two short term goals.

Day 9. Something you're proud of in the last few days.
I have to be honest, the last week and last few days have been absolutely mind numbing with emotions and frustrations. Amongst everything I've been going through, I unknowingly did something I feel great about. This week at YW's, there was a girl that was completely left out, who already struggles with getting along with girly girls and who doesn't have a lot of friends in this particular ward. Ya know that quote somewhere that talks about how if Christ were here on the Earth, He wouldn't be found with the rich and perfect, He'd be with the sick, the humble, and the afflicted? Well, I feel like this week I had Christ in my countenance by acknowledging this girl and being her only friend. I didn't do it because I felt bad for her, I did it because I felt like that was where I needed to be. I didn't realize the magnitude of my actions until later, and I am really proud of myself for it. I know it might sound a little cocky, but it's opened my eyes to being more Christ-like.

Am I just blogging to hear myself talk? Yes.
This week has been the week from... ya know. I'm not handling things well. With the news about my mom, the drama from YW's, the pressure from my calling as Camp Director, and now the added news of a wedding in the works during the busiest week of my life and coincidentally, 6 months from my mom's latest diagnosis and the same week as girls camp, I feel like I don't have a friend in the world, and to top it all off it's the first day of my period. My heart is pounding and my adrenaline is racing so fast, I can't hold still. I randomly burst into tears, and throw pillows at walls. I can't tell if I'm having some sort of nervous breakdown or what, but I know something is not right.
If you are my friend... could you please pray for a miracle for my mom? I can handle myself, but not without my mom. Anyways, thanks for listening and sorry for yakking your head (eyes) off (out).

Day 7- wow a week? Really?

Someone or something that has a big impact on me.

Aside from things like my family, my friends, my faith and cancer survivor stories... Something that really has a profound impact on me, is photography. Particularly, food photography. A picture really can say a thousand words, and I think it's a great talent to take pictures well. I envy photographers, A LOT!
Here are some pictures I took from The Pioneer Woman's Photography. She recently held a photography contest- these were some of my absolute favorites.

Sometimes when I see things like this, it makes me want to get right back in the kitchen and create something amazing. Only half the things I make end up on my blog, and only half of those have semi-decent photos- seeing fantastic photos just makes me feel good about myself. It makes me hungry. It makes me think about the person behind the lens, it makes me think about the ingredients, what the photo is supposed to convey to the audience and why I am so mesmerized... so many different thoughts go through my head! I just love it!

Day 6: Favorite Super Hero

I've never been one for comic books. Maybe it's because I have no brothers, I never even read a comic book until I went to college. So all these movies coming out these super heroes weren't on my list of flicks I was dying to see. Call me crazy.

So if I had to pick solely on what I know from the comics (which is nothing) I pick the Green Lantern, only because of Ryan Reynolds. I may be a little superficial but... who cares!

Day 4 & 5... I'm a loser and already missed a day

Day 4- A habit I wish I didn't have.
Well, it's hard to pick because there are so many. But I don't look at them as bad habits I look at them as idiosyncrasies. However, Warren and I sometimes sit and gossip- especially at the mall. It's usually about what people are wearing and 'why didn't they look in a mirror before they left the house'. 'um, it's not the 80's anymore where on earth did you buy that?'... and our newest favorite... 'where are these kids parents?' It brings us a lot of laughter because sometimes you really see some interesting things. I guess it's not horribly bad since I know you do it, too (don't lie, you know you do) but it's not something I'm super proud of. On the other hand, whatever it takes to get us out of the house and to get us to spend time together, right?

Day 5- A place I've been.
It's kinda blurry- but that's me with my old friend Liz at Hollywood Studios with Spider man! My senior year of high school, I got to go Disneyland and California Adventure and Hollywood Studios. That was the first and last time I have been there. It was so much fun, I wish I could go back!

Sunday, January 16, 2011

Day 3- picture of me and my friends

Or, as I interpret that... picture (s) of me and my friends! In order in which the pictures were taken... starting 2004
Then came college: 2006

I know I have more friends... (oh my gosh, I'm soooo popularrrr) (you're supposed to say that like a valley girl) but a lot of friends I don't have photos of. Since creating a blog, I've made a ton of friends just via the internet and blogging. They are all people I know, I just never had the opportunity to get to know - and blogging has helped me gain great friendships in all forms and sizes. It's been a great blessing to me. Thank you, my friends- for making blogging so much more fun for a great way to strengthen friendships!

Day 2

The meaning behind your blog title.

It's not rocket science- it's basically mine and Warren's awesome blog. Mostly it's me though, and it's not always about awesome things... I mean, how many of them are of me ranting and venting about silly things. I change the name a lot but they always mean the same thing. Anyways, that's all for today!

30 Day Blog Challenge

I guess I will do what everyone else is doing by starting a 30 day blog challenge. I hope it will kind of help me get over the initial shock of the news I heard today. Remember my mom? Well, she went to the doctor today to get the test results to see if her cancer was gone. The news was not good. It apparently spread to the back of her neck in her spine, as in... in the bone. She can do treatments but it wont make it go away, thus she has been given 6 months to 3 years left. BAH! But, we aren't going to be sad. We are going to be happy that she has come this far and that she still has time left. Plus, modern medicine has come a long way, who knows maybe it will be longer. Not to mention the power of miracles!
Oh my gosh- I'm watching Boy Meets World right now, and in this episode where Eric is applying for the internship at the news station-- his main competition is this kid named Arthur, who is Doyle from Gilmore Girls! Just in case you wanted to know... :)
Anyways, on to the challenge! Here are daily challenges:

Eggs. On. The. Floor

It's okay. I wasn't on my way out the door or anything. I wasn't running late or anything. It didn't splatter on my foot or anything... But I'm not bitter.

Ugh. What a week. I feel like Side Show Bob from The Simpson's when he gets out from underneath the car and steps on a rake and the handle flies up and hits him in the face. Then he takes another step and does it again over and over, and makes the same grumbling groan every time. That's what it's been like. I'm not complaining though... Oh no, because I never complain. Bah! Lies. All lies. I complain a lot.

My week was busy which was a much needed um, break? from being bored. It was nice. My house was a little neglected however and the laundry was piled miles high the dishes smelled kind of funky. Not to worry it's all been taken care of. I can't really remember what made me so busy this week, which is sad. Tuesday night I had Young Women's... I shouldn't have even gone. Have I told you how much I love sitting alone? Because nothing shows a group of teenagers that you are a loser than them seeing you sit alone like a huge dork. I sat by a girl who was also sitting alone for the most part just so we could be lonely together (kind of an oxymoron I guess) but I slid over to make more room for the boys who came in late... and she didn't follow me, so I looked even more pathetic. The kids all separated but the leaders had to stay in the chapel until all the groups came back in- and guess who sat alone the entire half hour. ME! All the other leaders chit chatted and listened to really bad music (both inappropriate for the chapel and bad taste) and what not while I held back tears. I tried to get involved in their conversation when someone brought up the Black Eyed Peas and wanted to know when they first became famous. No one knew and I chimed in explaining that the Black Eyed Peas opened for NSYNC in 1998 (I know, because I was there) so they had been around for a while. It didn't work because smarty mouth bald guy told me "well, they opened for U2 last year, so...that doesn't mean anything". Okay, geez sorry.
Matters were made worse by a fellow presidency member who told me I shouldn't sing at the funeral since it was just supposed to be the girls singing. I guess it makes sense, but the family wanted the leaders to be apart of it (and other YW who were no longer in YW's) and what the family wants the family gets in times such as these. I thought it was rude, so I sang anyways. And so did some other leaders. Take that!
Also, above mentioned presidency member asked me to be at the funeral on Friday at 9:30am to help greet people at the doors. Okay, fine I can do that. So I show up at 9:36am (remember how the eggs fell on the floor...) and lo and behold guess who is the only person to show up that early. ME! I was so livid that she asked me to come early when my services were not needed and she, herself didn't bother coming (neither did any of the other leaders, might I add) that I B-lined it for the kitchen and asked to help out until it was time for the choir to meet. This is not the first time this woman has done this to me. I'm so done. GAH!

Anyways, the funeral was nice, sad but nice. Then today I had to conduct the music for church. DUN DUN DUUUNN!!! I was a nervous wreck, but everything went well. I of course, got many comments about my performance. Such is life. My nerves are shot from all the emotional-ness from this week. I'm so excited for next week to come... it will be full of Boy Meets World marathons and Parks and Recreation coming back on the air. Woo!

Better late than never, I always say

I can't believe how quickly Christmas came and went. Here in Canada, there is no Thanksgiving between Halloween and Christmas so you go from goblins and ghosts to Santa and Rudolph in one night. I put up my Christmas stuff (the few decorations that I had) in mid November like everyone else and it seemed like it was taking f.o.r.e.v.e.r for Christmas to come. Then bam, it's here and now it's gone.
This year for Christmas we decided to stay home- but really, we weren't home because we were at Warren's dad's house about 10 minutes away. We had an awesome Christmas. I don't want to sound spoiled rotten... but, I am totally spoiled rotten. We got a lot of great gifts and a lot of things we needed and will definitely enjoy.
OH! But before I forget... I found some pictures from the gingerbread night--- remember?
And... here are some pictures from Christmas...
the big one on the right is my pots and pans!
 the loot...
Christmas night we went to the Airdrie Lights Festival. Airdrie is a city just north of Calgary. Our car has a temperature gauge that tell us what the temperature is outside... so right before we got out of the car it said it was about -1C... so one degree below freezing- not too bad. Oh but no... after we left the parking lot the temperature dropped - we saw another temperature reader by the food stands that said -12C. We didn't last long being out in the frigid cold. But, here are some pictures.
look at my cute new boots!

----
And for some sad news, to end a happy post... haha wouldn't be Kelsey's blog if it weren't sad in every post, right? The YW's President in our ward passed away on Thursday. She was sick with cancer for nearly 18 years and a couple months ago they discovered that it had returned and spread rapidly. I feel so bad because I didn't really know she had cancer until she had to stop coming to church. I didn't know she was that bad- I just figured it was because of the germs. It totally broke my heart- she was one of the first people to really welcome me into our new ward and quickly became a good friend to me. She was the first person I told about my own mom being diagnosed with cancer and every time I saw her she always asked how my mom was doing. She will definitely be missed but I know she is up in heaven laughing and chatting with everyone and helping others. The funeral is on Friday and I have the opportunity to sing with the YW... also the ward choir but I don't know how that will work since everyone will be on the stand the whole time, so we shall see. Church was super depressing today- which was a given. It was hard. I had a hard time keeping my composer... not so much because of who passed away but because I kept thinking about my own mom. I knew I shouldn't have worn eye liner today... haha!
So my resolution this year is to get a gym membership (totally cliche, huh?) so I can use the treadmills and just get into shape. People always roll their eyes at me when I say I'd like to work out and get into shape because someone who is a size four since they were 16 doesn't really need to lose weight... but I'd like to be in better shape and build my muscles back up. I'd also like to maybe work on my stamina so I can start doing Race For The Cure and things like that. I think it will give me some sort of sense of accomplishment and make me feel like I'm contributing since I can't work or go to school.
Do you have a resolution this year? Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and that this year will be a good one! Thanks everyone for reading my blog and being so kind and wonderful! ...and for commenting!
