Some updating...
First off... I just want everyone to know how upset I am about the weather. It gets nice for a couple of days, then it rains... and half the time, it ends up snowing. Where I come from, north of this place, it's spring starting February 28th! I just wanted to throw that out there.
Second, I'm only blogging really, because Warren is busy typing a 10 page paper. He's been so busy with school, and for some reason that makes me busy, too, in some bizarre way. I even ended up doing his turn at the dishes, which by the way, smelled like something had died in that sink. But, I'm waiting up for him to finish his paper so he doesn't feel rushed. And I got bored...
Third. Our apartment sucks. For the couple of days that it got above 50 degrees, our living room has turned into a sauna. I guess that's what you get for living on the 3rd floor. It's been so hot, even opening the windows does nothing... and it's too early to really turn on the AC... ugh, I'm ready for a new place. Not that I don't love it, it's our first apartment so it holds dear to my heart, but if I had known what I know now about apartments and living on your own (as in, not on campus!) I would have kept looking. Which kind of brings me to my next point of interest.
We have decided, with a 75% guarantee, that we will be moving. Where? Calgary. When? End of August. Why? Well, lots of reasons really. Main one being, it's easier, faster, and CHEAPER for me to become a Canadian resident and get a green card up there, than it is for Warren to get one here in the states. Since we have been married, we have come across some pretty big expenditures, most of them involving school. I work really hard, and I've tried getting a 2nd job, but here in Logan there isn't much to come by. And since I'm no longer in school, places have docked me points since they know I wont be receiving a degree anytime soon. I get a lot of hours, and I make a lot in commission, but for everything we have to pay for, it just doesn't seem to be enough. We have had to decide some months, between what two items we were going to spend our last $40 on. Birth control, or tithing. We aren't spending money like there's no tomorrow, that's just how tight it got with everything we needed to pay for. We also have had to go without groceries... not that it was a big deal cuz we always have food, just nothing we really want. Since Warren can't work in the states, it's been hard because he's not contributing. He has a job on campus now, and the extra $200 from him has been such a blessing. But even with endless amounts of saving and even selling things on Ebay, we can't afford to stay living in a town where his employment is limited and jobs are few and far between.
So we sat down and thought about our options. BYU is a great school and tuition is cheaper than USU and it isn't based on in state/out of state... so we've got that one in the bag. But the same thing there as here, he can only work on campus, and I wouldn't have a job right away. The cost of living is slightly higher as well. This seemed like a pretty risky move since jobs weren't secure.
BYUI is still in the 25% running. Tuition is even cheaper than BYU, and Warren can actually apply for a scholarship he is far over qualified for. I would qualify even more than Warren if I were planning to attend. Rexburg also has a Paul Mitchell Partner School for Cosmetology which is where I really want to go. There is one in Salt Lake, and Provo, and my sister goes to the one in Boise... I just love it. That's my dream school. But we still have the same money situation. Neither one of us would have jobs, and who knows when one would come up, population is sparse up there, and so are the jobs. This is another somewhat risky jump, but we are still considering it.
BSU. My mom suggested this one to us. I thought it was a great idea, of course! I love Boise, I am almost confident I would be able to transfer jobs, and I'm sure I'd be able to pick up another one, maybe even a third if I wanted. Jobs up there are booming. But, for some reason Warren wasn't thrilled about it. I'm not really sure why, it could be that the school is not that great of a school.
So, Calgary seems to have the lead. Warren can work there easily, and make triple the amount of our incomes currently. Which would be really nice... we have debts to pay. We would be able to afford a new car, a more reliable car. We would be able to save more, and save to go on a vacation since we didn't go anywhere for a honeymoon. We don't travel much either, and we both would really like to do that before it's time to settle down and have kids. (eww). I can get residency pretty quick, and then once I get my green card, we could move back to the states, have enough money for both of our schoolings, and have enough for his residency... then we could boarder hop! It just seems like a smart thing to do. But on the down side... I would be so far from my family. Visiting would be difficult. My mom did, however, when I was talking to her about all this, tell me that sometimes being an adult means you do things you don't necessarily want to do, but know you have to, and know it's the right thing to do. And it just made me feel so much better about it. I'm still really scared, and nervous... and a little sad... I love the US, and I never thought I'd ever leave it. But if it means that we will finally be finacially secure, then I guess I have to do it.
