Just been at the lake.... ya know

Oh I love summer! I'm glad that Canada got it's act together and decided to be summer (however, I don't know how you can call an average high of 80F summer, but I'll take it). I heard this really funny quote the other day--- Canada has three months of summer... only problem is you don't know which months! It's true... February was spring, and March and April were winter again... it's all messed up.
So I have been at the lake 4 days out of the last 5 days... this can only equal one thing... a very burnt Kelsey. I've grown up from my immature thinking and have started applying sunscreen more than once a day... it has helped greatly, but secretly, if I don't burn, I don't tan... and if I don't tan... I match the color of mayonnaise. Here are some pictures, they aren't anything super awesome, mostly just me being bored with a camera. Oh, and you will not be seeing Warren in any of these pictures, because he is at work... so, just thought I'd mention that before you start looking all these pictures with strange guys... ;)
Lots of little kiddies... some, without any clothes on... really? On a public beach? Who are these childrens parents?
My friend Stefan, seen in the red chair in picture #4, said he would come and pick me up since I didn't have a car-- he was not very specific in what mode of transportation he would be using... so I ended up riding to the lake on the back of a motorcycle... never again. I've never ridden on one before, and I don't think I will be doing it again, ever!
And finally, my sunburn/tan thing, not including what I got today... it's not as bad as it looks here, by morning it was almost completely brown instead of tomato red.
Happy summer!!

Be careful what you wish for!

I am happy to report to all of you, that I did much MUCH better at conducting today. Minus the fact that we were WAY LATE and someone else had to conduct the opening song. Warren now takes back his comment about me 'nagging him to get in the shower'... Silly boy, when will you learn that I am always right? I only messed up a couple of times, but you could hardly tell compared to before. Woot! I'm pretty happy for myself. Thanks everyone for your wonderful, nice comments. It really did make me feel so much better.
So, today's lesson is, be careful what you wish for. Remember how I told you about my little 'wishing' rant a few months ago in my old ward... about how I wanted a chance to be choir director... and remember how I got that calling? Well, there was a small tid bit of information I didn't share along with that 'wishing' rant... I wished to be in Young Women's. Guess what... now I am the Secretary in the YW Presidency, as well as keeping my conducting/choir calling. Now, don't get me wrong, I am more than exciting for this added calling, I just wasn't expecting it at all. I have three words for you.... YAY YAY YAY!!!!

The opposite of a happy post :)

Today was another extremely tragic day for me. I don't mean to make a big deal out of something that probably doesn't matter too much in life, but everyone has their cross to bear, right? This just happens to be mine. I'm sure by now, most of you are thinking "holy crap Kels, just get over yourself already and post pictures of happy things like bunnies and other people's adorable kids".

If I  had the copyrights of everyones children I would be glad to post cute kids all over here... I would, really.

Dispite my practicing, my confidence level, the smile on my face--- I can't seem to get this whole conducting thing down. No big deal, right? No one really pays attention, except for the organist and everyone else in the congregation because apparently everyone knows how to do it a thousand times better than I, and this ward is exceptionally musically inclined. No big whup.

As if! I honestly don't know why I was called to do this. God must be having a hay day up there laughing his head off at me. I'm sure he's not really doing that, but it sure feels like it. I practiced my arm off yesterday and last night. My arm was shaking because it's not used to this much exercise. I was singing along as I was practicing, and could hear the organ in the background following my every beat. I wish for once, a song could sound like it how it sounds in my head. I know I'm not crazy! Today I started to doubt if it was really me that was having problems... maybe the ogranist is out of practice, he did just get home from a mission a few months ago... No... I'm not the type to blame someone else. It takes an amazing amount of skill to play that thing, it's definitely not him.

It's got me to the point where I am now thinking that I am talentless. Music was the only thing I thought I really had a knack for. I'm not good at anything else. I just don't get it. Is it wrong to want to be released from this already? I don't mean, "man, I wish I didn't have to do this because I just don't want to..." I am really and truly struggling to keep it together. I don't think that callings are meant to humiluate people to the verge of tears. And I wish people would just keep their comments to themselves. Yeah, I know I'm not very good, but you're fat and have an ugly face!

So, what am I doing wrong? I go into it having this stellar attitude and really excited because I love music, and I love singing and I love that this ward actually enjoys singing, too- but by the end of the song, I want to jump off a cliff. So why can't I do it? Why can't this be easier for me? Should I talk to my bishop? Should I ask to be released... can you even do that?

I just have to tell you

First of all, sorry for all the boring posts lately. A lack of sunshine means less pictures, and less pictures means boring posts. But please read this, because I could sure use some comments... and maybe some ice cream.

My new calling is going horrifically, thanks for asking. My first Sunday conducting I did okay, surprisingly. The organist missed a couple pick up notes, but other than that, it went well. We had a different organist last Sunday, and I was told that he would be an easier one to play with because he was more willing to actually follow my lead instead of taking his own tempo. I think a combination of me being nervous to give a talk on something that I really had no knowledge about and the fact that I had to stand up on that stupid stand practically the entire meeting, caused me to have a bit of a brain fart. The first song went alright, only this time, I missed the pick up note at the beginning, however I didn't notice it I guess because when I realized that there was a pick up note at the beginning, I wasn't off beat, if that makes sense to anyone. Oh but the end of the song it was bad- because I thought there were only 3 verses to the song... no there were 4. IDIOT! So everyone kind of laughed at me because they all saw the light bulb go off in my brain from the expression on my face. I beamed a color of red only Satan himself could relate to, both of embarrassment and anger that I had messed up.
My talk went okay, they wanted me to take up approximately 10-12 minutes, so that's what I wrote my talk to be... I think it came out to be about 9... oh but it would have been 9 minutes long, had I not lost my spot and ended up skipping half of it. My mind went blank. I was so upset because this never happens to me. I've been performing since I was 10... I am used to being in the spotlight, I've never struggled with being in front of a crowd. After my talk, there was an intermediate hymn... which wouldn't ya know... I had to conduct. Well the guy conducting the meeting took forever to stand up to introduce it, so I stood there waiting because the organist was ready to play... so I sat back down with this huge confused look on my face... he finally gets up and yammers on a bit, obviously to take up time because of my sad pathetic excuse of a talk ended too shortly. I get back  up to the music stand, and conduct the song... but the organist kept missing my intro beats at the beginning of each verse, but it wasn't his fault, he couldn't see my hands. I had to keep up with him instead of the other way around, I just couldn't get it together. I tried my hardest to at least keep track of the down beats so I wouldn't get too far off, but it was a lost cause.
The same thing happened during the last song. That poor organist. I felt so ashamed because I had even practiced the night before, and they were easy songs! I'm sure the poor missionaries who were seated next me to enjoyed the view of my skirt flipping up each time I got up. Seriously who thought those chairs were a good idea?
To make matters worse, by the end of the meeting I was on the verge of tears, I was so embarrassed. As I was walking off the stand to go to class, this guy comes up to me and says "you're not exactly the most seasoned conductor out there, are you?"... No sir, I'm not, but thanks for the encouraging words. If you are asking yourself, would someone really say something like that to my face at CHURCH, my answer is yes. He really did. I felt horrible. I couldn't go home because Warren had to teach in Primary, I thought about just going and sitting in the car, but forgot to get the keys before Warren ran off... so I decided just to wait in a corner until everyone cleared out and find a chair and study. The only quite place I could find was nearby the bishops office- what the hay, he'll probably be too busy to notice me. I sat down and something said to read my scriptures to look like I was busy so no one asked why I wasn't in class. I opened up the Book of Mormon and flipped to the Doctrine and Covenants... and of course, the first verse I read goes a little something like this: "For, behold, you should not have feared man more than God. Although men set at naught the counsels of God, and despise his words-- Yet you should have been faithful; and he would have extended his arm and supported you against all the fiery darts of the adversary; and he would have been with you in every time of trouble." Bam. Sad thing is, I knew this the whole time. It's not like Karen Baker didn't sit me down and explain to me that it doesn't matter how you conduct so long as you are in tune with the Spirit. I guess I learned my lesson, but it still didn't feel that great when countless amounts of people walked up to me and told me how much they enjoyed my talk, yet offered some "tips" for the music. I tried not to give up hope, I kindly thanked everyone and wrote down their unheeded advices, but gee has my self esteem evaporated into thin air. So this Sunday, I will much more prepared, I will study like nobody's business and practice so much my biceps will be the size of softballs.

Thank you pregnant lady

I've had a rough week... first the scratch on my arm... then my flat iron bit the dust, I have to give a talk tomorrow in Church, and then last night. We went and saw the movie Date Night- so hilarious! We sat in front of these two pregnant ladies (I'm going with pregnant because they kept talking, rather loudly, about all the things that happened to them during pregnancy #1{ugh, thanks for that visual}- and it's better than saying 'fat'... right?). First off, they wouldn't stop talking for the first 15 minutes, normally I don't care because sometimes I talk and it takes me a few minutes to shut up. Then the lady behind Warren starts coughing up a lung. It was sick... I don't know if she was choking or what, but it was gross, and LOUD!! She goes on for a few minutes and I was about ready to ask her to leave because she was disrupting our movie. Remember, we were in the seats directly in front of them. She finally stops, and I look back over my shoulder to see if she was okay only to see her PUKE IN HER SODA CUP! Are you serious, lady?! You don't have the decency to leave the theater? I told Warren to lean forward for a bit, he was really into the movie so he did it but didn't ask me why. She then got up and left- thank goodness! Oh but wait, it's gets better. She then has the nerve to walk back in the theater and sit back down- not without smelling like throw up. Seriously lady, you have now ruined this movie for me. She kept coughing and burping... ugh, it was so gross. She kicked Warren's seat a few times, too... but who's keeping track of the stuff she's doing, right?!

After we left the movie, we over heard other people talking about her, I guess she never went to the bathroom, just hung out in the hallway.

I don't have anything against pregnant women, but if you are THAT SICK, maybe you shouldn't go to a movie. And if you are so sick all the time that you are used to it... please remember that others aren't, and it's not socially acceptable to BARF in front of other people! You freaking sicko!

Sorry for the rant, pregnant women. I applaud those of you who know better than to get sick in front everyone else, and know when to excuse yourself to the bathroom.

Oh the horror

This is what happened to me today:
This is my arm with a big scratch on it.
I was at Staple's today with my mother in law and this handicapped man comes up to us. He first reaches out to my mother in law to shake her hand, then to me- but as soon as I put my arm out, he comes in for a hug! Not just any ol' hug either, I thought he was going to start kissing my arm with the way his head positioned it's self on me. I felt extremely uncomfortable so I pulled my arm back and as I did so, he scratched me! I don't mean to sound rude and insensitive, but EWW! What a creeper! I don't think this guy was really handicapped, because after we quickly walked away to other side of the store in sheer fright he might follow us, we saw him leave the store acting and walking more 'normal' than he had when he came up to us. Maybe, maybe not- I'm not sure, but I didn't like it.

After we walked away we started talking about what had just happened, and an interesting point came up. What do you in an instance like that? Do you be nice or do you say something?
Creepy.

The coolest thing ever

This little girl is in my ward here in Calgary. Needless to say, church was pretty inspiring today because of her.
