Comic Con & New Place

Warren and his brother, Graham, went to comic con on Saturday and met some pretty cool people. I told him he had to take a camera and take a ton of pictures so I put it all over my blog! I'm such a loser! But here are the pictures:

Ghostbusters
Um, I'm not sure what these characters are...
I don't know what this guy is either, but guessing by Warren's face, he's pretty excited to see him
Not much room for becoming an actor... you don't look like you're dying Warren...
Hulk Hogan!
R2D2

Next are pictures of our new place. We haven't moved in yet, not till this weekend... oh joy. I love moving! (Not!)
living room
bedroom closet
dining area
kitchen (light bulb burned out, so it's kinda dark)
the view
a buzzer! awesome!
straight out of the 70's...

and this is me in the freak snow storm we had Saturday night...
I don't know if you can tell, but the flakes were the size of small golf balls... crazy, EH?! ;)
Thanks for reading!

Some light reading

This is going to be a long one, folks. But please don't skip out on what I have to say, I want everyone's opinion afterward!

First, I will wrap up my bad day I had a few days ago. It started just as a normal day, when Warren got home (he got a raise, and now gets off at 3:30pm, woo!) I went to the grocery store because we were out of everything. On my way, some DUMB blonde girl was smoking marijuana in the car next to me... and it was a b-e-a-utiful day out, so of course my windows were down. Now, I know some of you might question whether or not she was really smoking what I said she was smoking... well folks, I went to Warped Tour when I was 16 and I will NEVER forget that smell, ever. It took me years to explain to my mother that it wasn't me who was smoking marijuana when I came home and had her on my back about why clothes smelled so bad. Trust me, I know that's what it was. Anyways, so I go to the store and I'm wondering around killing time because if I leave early, I'll hit rush hour. So I'm checking out the make-up because I'm getting bored of the same browns I wear everyday... so I'm comparing everything because I don't usually buy a lot of make-up aside from eye liner and mascara. So as I'm looking at eye shadows, this stupid lady is down the hair dye isle. Okay, I don't mean to sound cruel or sound like I'm so much better than everyone else, but if you are still using box dye's at 40, you need some help. This lady was buying 50 boxes of hair dye... if you're going to spend that much, why don't you just go to a salon! This lady also has two kids, young kids... one old enough to talk and other, well I'm not sure... the little one starts making this weird throat noise. At first I thought maybe it was one of those weird laughs that babies learn to make and you see home videos on people's blogs about their kid making that noise... but then it started gagging (remember, I'm not exactly in plain sight of the kid so I can't see him)... after the gagging, the kid started making other weird noises, and the older kid said "mom, (so-and-so) is going to throw up"... by this time, I'm not only LIVID for having to listen to this for 15 minutes, but grossed out, so I decided that whatever I had in my hand was good enough and I high-tailed it out of there and just as I turn the corner I hear the sound of liquid hitting the floor. %*#%$@.
You have to understand my issue with puke. I'm traumatized by it. Baby spit up, no big deal... but the real thing... uh uh, no way, I'm out. I was totally ticked for more than just the obvious reason. But now, I had mix-matching make-ups, since my time at the store was drastically cut in half- I have to drive home in rush hour- there is no way I'm staying at the store now that some kid has barfed. So I drive home, and as I'm bringing in my groceries, the door with a special code-lock wont open. Great. So I sit there trying forever to get in, and then just decide to ring the door bell... of course, Warren takes 3 minutes to get up the stairs... I start putting my groceries away and I smack my head on the bottom corner of the freezer door. So I started crying and then I finally got some sympathy.
So, I just want to say thank you to all those mothers out there who don't bring their children places when they are sick. Thank you for not grossing people out and spreading germs. You are all awesome.

Next, I have news. Nothing really about myself... I guess my step-dad found out he has a son... ha! I laugh because the last the thing world needs is another spawn of Satan. Nothing against my little sister who is his daughter, she some how didn't get all the bad genes, thank goodness. I guess the guy is 26. Good, at least he's old enough to {hopefully} know better. Now, I know most of you probably don't know a single thing about my family, and I'd kind of like to keep it that way as privacy to my family... but just know that my stepdad and I do NOT see eye to eye on ANYTHING. He is kind of a bad guy... he is super lazy, treats my mom like CRAP, beats her on occasion, hits my kid sister, his 'big dream' in life was to become a truck driver... he's an alcoholic, and went out and bought a big fat ugly gun when Obama was elected president 'to protect himself against the terrorists'. Yeah, he's got problems. BUT he's also been in my life since I was 7 years old. He's provided for my mom financially and generally is supportive of everything. He's taught me a lot, though I have a hard time crediting him for much. He's got life experience and knew that being naive wouldn't get me far. Unforunately, it has gotten to the point where my kid sister is scared to death of him, and my mom can't take all the verbal abuse and is talking divorce.

Which brings me to my TWO questions of the day: where do you draw the line in how you treat someone such as my step-dad? Do I hope that justice will be served and hope that he spends time rotting in jail for the stuff he's done and keep him on my bad list... or do I keep telling myself 'he's a child of God'... where do you draw the line? Obviously I should keep treating him as though he were God's son, but how do you do that with how badly he treats people? Also, how do you feel about people needing a license to have kids? Would it help the society of starving children and potentially help the crime rate... or does it take away people's rights to pro-create? Would it be beneficial or not?

Tell me what you think!

A Monday pick-me-up

I've realized that my blogging has sort of taken a turn for the depressing side. Which makes me sound like a total downer. But I promise it's not like that. I'm quite the happy person. So I thought I'd write about something that I think about every Sunday.

Something I truly love about living in Calgary- no it's not that the Canadian Rockies are the prettiest mountains I've ever seen in my life, nor the fact that the river that flows from one end of the city to the other is the bluest river of all time, or the fact that the air is cleaner and purer than that on the ranch back home (no I don't live on a ranch it just sounded good)... but it's that you get to see missionary work the way I have always heard about from all over the world. For the last 6 weeks straight, there has been a baptism (sometimes 2 or 3) in our ward. Only a few have been children- the rest are all adults! It's so amazing to witnessing these people change their lives around and see the positive come through. I never got that living in Boise, especially not while living in Logan. Sure the missionary work is just as great there as it is anywhere, but it's just different. You don't see people wearing jeans coming to church with the missionaries... and a few weeks later, that same person up on the stand being confirmed a member in Logan. It's amazing to hear these converts speak of their lives before they found the Gospel- and it's even more amazing to see Christs' countenance in their faces. It's so humbling. I guess it just touches my life so much because I am a convert as well. I can remember all the emotions they are going through- and how great is it to see yourself grow just from watching others grow, too. I love it. It sometimes gives me a slap in the face- especially when I go to church because "I have to" not because I want to. By the end, I have a totally different attitude. I have so much admiration for those people who get baptized being older. I can't imagine the struggles that come with that sort of a transformation. It just fills my soul.

I wish everyone one of my friends and family could experience the feelings of watching people come unto Christ. It's such a blessing, no words can express.

Sisters

How do you tell your little sister to chill out and to stop being so dramatic? I know she's young, but is there anything I can do to help her figure it out? She thinks she lives this horrible life, but in reality, she's got everything someone her age could want. Way more than my older sister and I had growing up. Does anyone have any suggestions?

IKEA food in the comfort of your own home

It's bliss.
And yes it's really from IKEA- I love grocery shopping there now. YUM!
Other stuff:
I just love getting a blizzard in April! (Not!)
I made this picture frame a few weeks ago, I think it's cool. Also, note my orange flowers! My first real decorative ... thing.
My adorable hubby... child at heart. Note the record on the wall is also Star Wars...
And finally, my first completed pair of shorts that I have sewn. They might look uneven, but they're not, it's just how my legs are. Don't laugh at my white hairy legs.

Just being a chatty Kathy

Sorry my posts have been boring. I just haven't had anything interesting to report on. No new job, I'm certainly not graduating college, I haven't cut my hair (however, I did get some eye last serum thing to make my lashes bigger and longer. We'll see how it goes)... I'm just a boring ol' plain Jane who doesn't know what to do with my life. It's fine.

I did however, send my residency papers off today, finally. Raise your hand if you're sick of hearing me blab on and on about that! I was feeling really pissy, for lack of a better term, because as I have mentioned before, everyone just expects me to be able to do everything all on my own and know exactly what to do all the stinkin' time. Stick a fork in me, I'm done! I'm just glad I got it done. I'm sure this wont be the end, but I've done my part and I've done my best and that's all anyone should expect from me. Right?

Um, I've picked up sewing... I haven't gotten far. One pant leg is now half of a pair of shorts. It's a work in progress.

We are moving. Blah. I hate moving. Not so much the actual event of moving to a new place as much as packing my junk up and then unloading it. We'll be moving to an area called Deer Run. I'm not going to give you any hints as to why it's called that particular name... but let's just say, it's next to a big frickin' park where wild animals run rapid. What do I hate more than wild animals? Wild animals in my back yard. You'd think since I live so far away from the Rockies that I would be able to escape (you have to pronounce that like Dory from Finding Nemo 'ESSS CAP EEEE') the animals. But no. They find me where ever I go. Have I mentioned I hate wild animals?

A few days ago I was talking with a friend and she was telling me about how she was contemplating life. She always tells me "well you're married! You've definitely got the greener side of the yard". Um, yeah I guess so... but I should be graduating college this year. And I'm not. I'm not even IN school anymore. I sit at home every day and watch the clock until my entertainment comes from work. I feel like such a loser. Doing nothing with my life and wasting all this time! Even if I occupy myself with crafts and hobbies, it never seems to satisfy this icky downer of a feeling I have inside. Nothing fills the void. Many people tell me I should start popping out babies... well kids, that isn't going to happen. I don't mean that disrespectfully, I know many of those people are just trying to share their love and joy of parenthood with me, and that's great, but I'm just not at that point in my life yet. Also, would it not be the dumbest thing I could do at this stage- no career, husband with no career, no big savings, no house... people try to tell me that the Lord will always provide a way... but that doesn't justify making stupid decisions when you no you shouldn't. Sorry for the random rant.

I hope everyone else is doing well... I've loved reading all the events from Easter! Especially the ones with the little kiddos!

New favorite quote

"Are you dissing Canada? I couldn't hear you over my health care benefits"

Ha, I love it. It's just so funny. I'd love to whip that out the next time I hear someone diss Canada. Not that I love Canada more than America, but still. It's a good come back.

Next, look at this picture. I can't stop laughing! It's just so funny!
Enjoy! PS, sorry if you don't think it's funny, I laughed my butt off for almost 10 minutes straight.

Calling all... um, people who sew? Sewers? Seamstresses?

I need some advice, and fast! I am super excited to whip out my sewing machine... I bet you didn't even know I had one, huh? Well, that's kind of my problem. I haven't done much with it because I have this problem... I know it has something to do with the tension, but I've read the manual and had several people help me and no one can figure it out. The top sews just fine and dandy, but the bottom tangles into a gigantic mess of string and it makes this 'snap' noise when it happens. I don't know what to do?! Someone please help me!

I'm going to make some curtains, as seen in my previous post... I'm also going to convert my old jeans into shorts... any suggestions on how to do all this successfully? Any and all advice and help is greatly appreciated!

In my dreams!

It all started yesterday, when I watched the Today Show and saw the segment with Kathy Lee and Hoda (the only portion to really watch... hint hint wink wink) and they showed these curtains that I absolutely love. Sadly, I have no windows so... I don't really have any use for curtains, but SOMEDAY I will and this is what I want them to look like. Only, I will make them look nicer than these...
So cute, right?! Ah I can't wait! I'm so excited! So, I started at the website that Kathy Lee and Hoda had mentioned... and oh boy... I went crazy with all the cute things I found.
Are these not the cutest fridges ever?!
And look at these lamps!
And because I'm American... I really need this...
And because I'm a girl, I definitely need one of these...
And, I don't really have a reason for having these, but I want them!
Would these not look cute on your dresser or as your door handle?!
I know what you are thinking... Kelsey, where the heck can I buy this stuff?? Well my friends, I will tell you...
www.pbteen.com is where. The stuff is kind of expensive, so I just look for things that I can make or find somewhere else... BUT its way fun to look at!
And, for the grand finale...
No words can express my happiness...
